National Academies Reports Featured at AGU Fall Meeting

The American Geophysical Union (AGU), dedicated to the advancement of earth and space sciences, annually convenes 25,000 attendees at its fall meeting to share new research.
During this week’s 2022 AGU fall meeting in Chicago, the following sessions will feature presentations from National Academies staff and expert committees:
Tuesday, Dec. 13
This presentation will explore the National Academies’ wide portfolio of work at the environment- national security nexus. Read more about the Academies’ new climate security roundtable.
Origins, Worlds, and Life: A Decadal Strategy for Planetary Science and Astrobiology
The National Academies recently published a decadal survey of science and mission strategy for planetary science, astrobiology, and planetary defense for 2023-2032. The survey’s co-chairs, Robin M. Canup, assistant vice president of the Planetary Sciences Directorate at the Southwest Research Institute, and Philip R. Christensen, Regents Professor in the School of Earth and Space Exploration at Arizona State University, will explain how the committee identified the most compelling questions, goals, and challenges that should motivate future activities in these areas in the coming decade.
The 2024-2033 National Academies Decadal Survey for Solar and Space Physics/Heliophysics
The third National Academies decadal survey for solar and space physics and heliophysics is currently underway. Representatives from the survey will update the community on progress to date and engage in town hall discussions.

The Contribution of Satellite Measurements to CMS and a Look Forward
This presentation from Annmarie Eldering, retired, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, and member of the committee that wrote the report Greenhouse Gas Emissions Information for Decision-Making: A Framework Going Forward, will explore the framework developed in the report and comment on how this applies to work in the NASA Carbon Monitoring System.

Supporting the Whole Student: Mental Health and Higher Education
In 2021, the National Academies released Mental Health, Substance Use, and Wellbeing in Higher Education: Supporting the Whole Student. This consensus study report provides a landscape analysis of the current state of behavioral health in higher education, as well as a review of the evidence for building a comprehensive set of resources for students in higher education to thrive.
